You look through the yearbooks
of our early stages
and you memorize the listings
in the yellow pages
i'll be like them photographs
from 1921
where everyone's out on the stairs
in the april sun
in the church directory...
Every year they take a picture
of the latest class
and display it in the basement
up behind the glass
and after my obituary
fades without a trace
i won't need no newspaper
because i got a place
in the church directory...
